About Me

My Documentary Wedding Photography Background

“Hey I’m Ben, a wedding photographer from Bedford. With my partner Kim as my assistant, we frequently cover Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire, Hertfordshire & Buckinghamshire.”

My photography philosophy

A pretty good way to start out is by telling you more about myself and my photographic style. I’m Ben, a professional wedding photographer from Bedfordshire currently living in the quaint village of Cotton End with my partner Kim, who’s my second shooter at weddings and events. Oh and in case you didn’t notice I’m a red head, yet somehow I still manage to blend into the background on your big day.

I’d say I’m quite laid back as a photographer, and I’ve learned that it’s important to have a flexible approach to consistently produce high quality photos. I’d say that 70% of my photographs are taken without any direction, but some of the more formal shots may require a little helping hand. Even so, I’ll always strive to make you feel comfortable, and more often than not, a phony grin can turn into a natural beaming smile, whilst a fake laugh can crack into a fit of laughter. As the official photographer of your wedding, my objective is to tell the story of your day, encapsulating your most beautiful moments.

For me, wedding photography is not just a case of photographing those ‘big moments’ it is about capturing the complete story of the day. I believe that anyone who looks through your wedding album should get a true taste of what it was like to be present.

All of my packages include a second shooter, my partner Kim. She’ll spend time capturing behind-the-scenes style photographs as the day unfolds, so you get the perfect mix — and an album that reflects the complete story of your day.

I developed an interest in documentary photography throughout my years in journalism, and I’ve been able to use my experience to create a documentary style that’s perfect for weddings and events. Having learned from one of London’s finest photographers, Ruth Allen, I’ve developed a knack for anticipating and capturing authentic, beautiful moments.

More from me…

  • Let’s talk

The easiest way to see if I’m free for your big day is to send me a message here and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can. I often meet clients for a chat and a coffee before the preparation commences and follow up with several brainstorming/idea sessions before the big day. If you’ve selected ‘Sunrise to Sunset’ or ‘The Complete Works’ you’ll get an engagement shoot prior to the wedding. This gives us time to get comfortable with each other and most couples incorporate the shots into their invitations.

  • Planning your shotlist

Speaking of preparation, I’ll always work with a couple to create a checklist of wedding shots. This gives me something to work with on the day, and it’s most useful with the formal family photographs—so nobody gets left out! We also create moodboards with our clients and we bring these ideas with us on the day for extra inspiration!

  • My gear

I’m a Canon lover, and the majority of my photographs will be taken with my 6D and 70-200mm telephoto lens, which allows me to blend into the background and capture natural portraits. I also use wider lenses to show the full scene, such as when photographing the entire reception venue at sunset. For those who are interested in my post-production techniques, I always shoot in RAW as this gives me complete control over lighting and colours. Once I’m happy with the look of each image, I’ll save it for you on your personalised wooden memory stick as a JPEG so you can share it with your friends and family members.

  • My Assistant

During my early wedding photography experiences I instantly realised just how important it is to have an assistant (or second-shooter), especially as a documentary photographer who’s working to tell the story of the day as it unfolds. This is why I have my partner Kim to shoot alongside me, so even when I’m taking the formal head-on photographs of family members, Kim is working away in the background to capture candid moments.

  • Pricing and Packages

All three of my wedding photography packages are absolutely clear with no hidden costs whatsoever. If you require any extra services in addition to my wedding photography services, like wedding albums or storybooks, I will happily provide you with a quotation but this can be paid on a separate invoice, should you wish.

  • My Locations

I’m based in Cotton End, Bedford so I’m ideally situated to cover weddings in Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire. As you’ll see when you browse through a selection of my wedding albums, I’ve also covered areas of London, but whilst these are my main areas, I’m very flexible when it comes to shooting further afield.

I love photographing people, so in addition to wedding photography, I also specialise in portrait photography and studio photography. If you want a fun family photoshoot, a studio ‘headshot’ for your CV or LinkedIn account, or a set of images to proudly display on your website, I’d love to hear from you.

You can find my current wedding prices here where you’ll be presented with three packages. All of these packages include photographs on a personalised wooden memory stick and matching box to sore it in. I’d be happy to show you a recent example in person, where we can discuss more about your wedding plans.

If you’d like to see if I’m available for your wedding, simply send me a message and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible. I’m very flexible so if you’d like me to come to you to have a chat and a coffee that’s absolutely fine, and I’ll be sure to introduce you to Kim, my partner and assistant.
